Who the specialist will work with
You will be working independently, but with Project Management and client interaction. You will be reporting to the Digital Comms Development team for technical delivery.
What the specialist will work on
The Cabinet Office Digital Comms Team is looking for a developer with significant Wordpress experience to join them working with the GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland Campaign for the duration of a specific and funded project.We are looking for someone to re-platform the website for the GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland Campaign. A major part of the work is to develop a GREAT branded extensible theme from GOV.UK Design System and transfer over and add new content.

Working arrangements
Monday to Friday7.5 hours per day + lunch timeMust start work by 09:15 and not finish before 16:00. Daily catch-up expected with Development Team. Face-to-face meetings may be required in the buyer's/client's office. The supplier will be responsible for any expenses, including travelling.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Wordpress, including plugin development and themes
  • Strong working knowledge of PHP7/8 and OO PHP development, Javascript for frontend development, with 5+ years of development experience
  • Frontend UI development with GOV.UK Design System, SASS and Webpack, with a very good understanding of accessibility and web standards
  • Must be able to extend the GOV.UK Design System to create bespoke templates
  • Ability to present and communicate technical solutions to a technical and non-technical audience
  • Experience in working with third-party APIs, including MailChimp/AWS SES
  • Knowledge of using debugging and security tools
  • Ability to take ownership of the entire development lifecycle, i.e. development and testing through to deployment
  • Experienced in using Git (Bitbucket) / SSH
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Experience working in government
