Who the specialist will work with
You will work closely with the Service Designer to ensure all designs meet user requirements, are consistent and in line with brand guidelines. You will report to the Product Owner and work closely with the Service Team (Service Owner, Product Owner, Delivery Manager, Technical Architect, Designer, User Researcher, Stakeholder Manager, Business Analyst, Developers, Test Lead, Support Team Lead).
What the specialist will work on
A UX/UI Designer is needed to produce UX/UI designs and prototypes for a new national learning platform. The design will be informed by user research and existing product requirements. The requirement is to apply user centred design principles to design a new platform ensuring the designs consider accessibility, usability, technical requirements and brand awareness. Design solutions should adopt a 'mobile first' approach. Designers will be expected to use Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator and Invision and contribute to an emerging design system. The project will use Agile software development methodologies, working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
WORK SETUP
Address where the work will take place
It is anticipated that the successful supplier will be able to work remotely. Infrequent meetings may need to take place face to face. Address: Stewart House in London and/or Blenheim House in Leeds.
Working arrangements
The individual will work remotely full-time (Monday-Friday), report to the Product Owner and be expected to attend virtual meetings as standard. Ad-hoc face-to-face meetings may occur.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Evidence of proficiency in UX, UI and interaction design techniques
  • Evidence of proficiency in design tools: Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision
  • Evidence of proficiency in creating prototypes in Invision, to support user research, stakeholders and design team decision making
  • Experience of designing new patterns and components to contribute to an existing design system
  • Demonstrable experience of responsive UI design and a good understanding of front end development techniques
  • A clear understanding of user centred design best practice and accessibility principles
  • Experience of understanding and interpreting brand guideline rules
  • Experience of interpreting user research feedback to inform user journeys and UI
  • Well rounded technical understanding to collaborate on technical specifications
  • Experience of planning, documenting and communicating the design process and concepts in a clear, concise manner
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Experience of GDS guidelines and principles
  • Experience working in Agile environment using SCRUM or other Agile frameworks
  • Previous experience working with Public Sector clients or the NHS
  • Knowledge across the digital design sector applying research in new design technologies to the benefit of the team and service
