A Senior DevOps Engineer is required to support the development of the design, strategy, execution and capability building of the DevOps function in a cloud platform development programme.

ABOUT THE WORK

Who the specialist will work with
Working within PPPT reporting to the Programme’s Lead Technical Project Manager and Scrum Master. Will need to engage with multidisciplinary team members within PPPT and wider HO directorates. To deliver against the backlog as set by the programme leads.
What the specialist will work on
Reviewing and contributing to high-level architectural, security and service design artefacts. Developing solutions from approved designs with focus on best practice and security. Maintaining/managing tooling in cloud platform. Documenting solutions built with LLD artefacts, alongside translating technical details and complexities with AWS cloud services, with view to obtaining accreditation. Developing Cloud Solution reference architectures standards/best practice. Developing/implementing DevOps processes; identifying efficiency savings. Ensuring common understanding between different technical stakeholders. Leading timely resolution of technical issues within delivery cycle. Supporting development and mentoring of Junior technical resources within team. Provision of some level 3 support of capabilities developed by programme.
WORK SETUP

The primary location will be in Croydon. Other London sites: 2 Marsham Street, Hendon Data Centre.
Working arrangements
Some remote working is acceptable, supported by a HO laptop to enable collaboration and sensitive material to be exchanged. Some meetings can be by conference call, but significant design meetings are expected to be face-to-face at a HO location or partner visit. Existing Subject Matter Experts located in Croydon or Hendon will provide most of the information on the architectures and requirements. Travel & Subsistence will not be payable for travel to sites within the M25. Travel outside of the M25 will be subject to the Home Office Travel & Subsistence policy.
Security clearance
SC & NPPV3 clearance is required; ideally this will be in place already (or an existing clearance can be confirmed) for an immediate start.

Additional terms and conditions
Travel & Subsistence will not be payable for travel to sites within the M25. Travel outside of the M25 will be subject to the Home Office Travel & Subsistence policy. The Home Office retains all IPR in respect of any service or software created.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of how AWS services hang together and the underlying technology
  • Have a strong awareness of networking capability including: Direct Connect configuration, Routing, Firewalls, Security Groups and the respective configuration tasks in a secure cloud environment
  • Demonstrable ability to solve business problems by applying technology
  • Demonstrable experience of Cloud Infrastructure Architecture
  • Demonstrable experience of building Infrastructure as a Code
  • Demonstrable experience working within Government and Policing
  • Demonstrable strong understanding of and exposure to AWS Cloud Environments
  • Demonstrable experience of developing designs for secure environments
  • Demonstrable experience of working within DevOps Environments
  • Demonstrable experience of engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience of influencing peers and stakeholders without having to depend on reporting lines
  • Demonstrable experience of creating LLD documentation
  • Demonstrable experience in all following enterprise-tooling-solutions & monitoring-solutions: Terraform, Pecker, Ansible, Linux, GitLab, CloudFormation, Confluence, JIRA, Jenkins, Sparx-EA & Pro-Cloud, Consul, Vault, Artifactory, JfrogX-RAY, SonarQube and Selenium-Splunk
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Show demonstrable experience of AWS Certification
  • Show a demonstrable Linux / Unix background
  • Show demonstrable knowledge of the Police and Public Protection Portfolio and the varying initiatives in progress would be a distinct advantage
