ABOUT THE WORK

Who the specialist will work with
LTHT are currently transitioning from a on premise data warehouse to a cloud-based data platform. The individual will be working with a project delivery team made up of a Product Owner, Project Manager, Technical Architect, Technical Information Managers, Business Analysts, Testers and Team Managers. The individual will also work with the various data source owners and a 3rd party supplier to define and implement the new solution.
What the specialist will work on
Working collaboratively with our chosen technology partner and alongside the existing Information & Insight Team, you will be responsible for translating our business requirements into technology requirements and defining the data standards and principles which underpin them. Our vision is to have a modern data architecture that is flexible, adaptable, and agile, creating a modern analytics ecosystem. Initially with 5 key systems to integrate into the Data Platform (followed by a rolling programme of work to bring in other key systems), experience of large scale, complex, data management projects is essential.

Working arrangements
The primary location will be St James’ University Hospital and they will be expected to work onsite where the task requires. The option to work remotely is provided to accommodate COVID19 restrictions and will be acceptable where the tasks allow. Expenses will be included in the daily rate. LTHT support flexible working where possible.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Experience of establishing common data models and suitable structures to enhance reporting
  • Data Management skills including setting up frameworks describing the processes to plan, specify, enable, create, acquire, maintain, use, archive, retrieve, control and purge data
  • Experience of Data Ontology (Data Catalog, Data Dictionary and Data Literacy)
  • Experience of producing diagrams representing key data entities and their relationships
  • Ability to define the processes to capture, transform and deliver usable data to Information users and most importantly identify the people who will consume the data and their unique requirements
  • A solid foundation in systems development. Must understand the system development life cycle, project management approaches, and requirements, design, and test techniques
  • Demonstrable experience of data modeling and design in a large complex organisation
  • Experience and understanding of both established and emerging data technologies, including established data management and reporting technologies
  • Expert knowledge of SQL databases alongside some knowledge of columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be articulate, persuasive and have the ability to conceive and portray the bigger picture to others
  • Experience of flowing data from source systems to business users and creating a series of interconnected data pipelines that serve various business needs using base data objects
  • Experience of working with multiple types of business users, Collaborating and coordinating stakeholders, partners, and external vendors
  • Experience or working knowledge of load operations and refresh rates (e.g. batch, mini-batch, stream), query operations (e.g., create, read, update, delete)
  • Experience or working knowledge of deployments (e.g., on premises, public cloud, private cloud, hybrid)
  • Experience of data processing engines (e.g., relational, OLAP, SQL, graphing, mapping, programmatic) and pipelines (e.g., data warehouse, data mart, OLAP cubes, visual discovery, real-time operational applications)
  • The ability to profile and tag data as it’s ingested and map it to existing data sets and attributes—metadata injection—a key function of data catalogs
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Experience of the governance process and defining the access points for different classes of business users: data consumers, data explorers, data analysts, and data scientists
  • NHS experience desirable but not essential
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
  • TOGAF 9 Certification Program
  • Certified Data Architect - Big Data
