Summary of the work
Infrastructure Architect: Be accountable for designing secure network environments in the cloud that support business areas. They will manage and design the implementation of infrastructure and secure network technologies in an AWS environment, migrating from an existing solution to our strategic shared platform as well as leading the onboarding design

ABOUT THE WORK

Who the specialist will work with
They will work as part of a Technical Design Authority who are responsible for specific domains. They will need to collaborate closely with delivery teams and business stakeholders across the enterprise in a multi-supplier environment. HM Passport Office is moving from a large outsourced SI arrangement to an in-house, largely cloud based and open source based solutions delivered iteratively.
What the specialist will work on
Work packages include, but aren't limited to: 1. Technical lead on migration designs to HMPOP s new shared AWS platform 2 – Technical design on HMPO shared AWS platform 3 – Technical design on HMPO SSS/PKI capability 4 – Technical security and governance of the new shared platform 5 - SME in the TDA for AWS services covering infrastructure, networks and security

Working arrangements
Typically on-site with wider team and clients in an Agile environment. Some site visits. Use of Confluence, Jira and Ardoq are the tools used to track progress against deliverables.
Security clearance
SC Clearance is required. HM Passport Office will support the clearance process.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Proven track record of migrating and architecting in a hybrid-environments, migrating from data centres to Cloud (AWS) platforms
  • Good experience of Networks, network hardware, network tools and Network Security on both cloud and traditional networking
  • Very good knowledge and experience designing logical and physical solutions using AWS services such as EC2, IAM, RDS, VPC, Direct Connect, Guardduty etc
  • Proven experience working in containerised environments using Kubernetes and surrounding ecosystem: Docker, Helm, KOPS etc.
  • Solid experience of designing secure architecture in a public sector environment
  • Good understanding/experience with DevOps tools, culture and automation (terraform, puppet, ansible, scripting, Jenkin) including development workflows, CI and other open source tools
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Experience of HMPO systems or similar government operational systems
  • Experience of GDS best practices
