ABOUT THE WORK
Early market engagement
As part of the wider project we have also commissioned a literature review and behavioural analysis (yet to be completed) to inform the digital media strategy. However the findings from the literature review and behavioural analysis are not required to feed into the digital and social media analytics activity.
Who the specialist will work with
Natural England's Environmental Land Management (ELM) Guidance Project Team, specifically digital media leads and social scientists. Primarily located at Natural England, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester WR5 2NP
What the specialist will work on
Conduct a one-off pilot analysis of digital and social media and other online sources to understand farmers, foresters, land managers and advisers/agents usage, including: -What digital content and channels are most used/ influential/ popular -What environmental land management topics are most used/ popular -Any identifiable trends Responsibilities: -Create taxonomy/search frame with Natural England -‘Harvest’ and clean online data to create a database of relevant data. -Data analysis to identify key themes, channels, influencers using volume metrics and deep dives. -Present initial report and take on board comments -Produce final report with results and recommendations for digital media strategy.

Working arrangements
Inception meeting to be held at a Natural England office in either Worcester, Bristol or Reading (tbc) to agree methodology, proposals for development of search frame, schedule and deliverables. Remainder of project expected to be delivered remotely. There will be weekly teleconferences to discuss progress. Webinars will be held to enable the supplier to present and discuss findings (for both the initial report and final report) with Natural England and other Defra Group representatives.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Can demonstrate a thorough understanding of different digital media products (videos, audio, podcasts, blogs, vlogs etc) and associated platforms in order to provide insights across the whole digital spectrum.
  • Can demonstrate a thorough understanding and experience of digital 'knowledge exchange' mechanisms and how these can be utilised for maximum effect.
  • Can demonstrate a thorough understanding of current developments in digital and social media and a proven ability to map trends and trajectories.
  • Can demonstrate recent experience (in last 12 months) of developing taxonomy / search frames to construct complex queries for analysis of large volumes of digital data.
  • Can demonstrate recent experience (in last 12 months) of analysing digital channels and social media platforms to develop a detailed understanding of audience usage by segmentation.
  • Can demonstrate recent experience (in last 12 months) of data analysis to identify key themes, channels, influencers using volume metrics as well as deep dives into data.
  • Can demonstrate recent experience (in last 12 months) of presenting analysis and making implementable recommendations to inform the development of a digital media strategy.
  • Can demonstrate that they have established processes and adhere to data management and data protection policies and procedures in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Experience (in last 5 years) of carrying out any research and analysis in relation to farming sectors, agri-environment or other land management activity.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of farming sectors, agri-environment schemes or other land management activity.
