Develop, introduce and help maintain DWP Data Governance Policy and Framework including standards and approach. Review documents produced by Data Governance Team. Provide DWP Data Governance Team with expert Data Governance advice and support including coaching the Team to build capability and improve performance, Attend bi-weekly Data Governance workshop meetings.

Who the specialist will work with
The specialist will work with departmental data governance managers in the recently established DGF. The specialist will also work with both business and technical specialists across the department to help identify and understand business requirements. They will deliver effective solutions that meet those requirements and facilitate the delivery of effective, sustainable, enterprise wide Data Governance.
What the specialist will work on
Working within the Data Governance Function (DGF), the specialist's work will include: ● Developing the Data Governance Policy, Standards and Approach to meet business requirements. Where gaps are identified, developing products that meet business requirements. ● Working on Data Governance pilot tests to address business issues, developing Frameworks and demonstrating the value of Data Governance. ● Working with stakeholders to embed Data Governance within the department. ● Advising on the technical and business aspects for strategic tooling solutions. ● Supporting the DWP Data Governance Team including mentoring & sharing expertise to build capability. ● Attending Data Governance Workshops and Meetings.

Flexible - DWP Offices, Benton Park View, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE98 1YX.
Working arrangements
Any two days a week between Tuesday and Thursday.
Security clearance
BPSS is required.

EXPERIENCE
Essential skills and experience
  • Provide an example within that last 2 years, demonstrating expertise in understanding data structures, standards, design patterns, security practices and regulatory and legal requirements relating to data
  • Demonstrable experience within the last 2 years in data concepts, data and process modelling, database, analytics and visualisation applications and strategic data governance tooling solutions
  • Provide examples of industry recognised enterprise architecture, data management or information security qualifications (e.g. CDMP, TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, CISM or equivalent)
  • Recent (within the last 2 years) experience and expertise in defining and implement data governance and/or data management programs within large public and private sector organisations. Evidence must be provided
  • Demonstrable experience of defining a data governance framework to include: metadata, data catalogues, data architecture, data modelling, data quality, data storage, data security and privacy, data sharing, integration and interoperability
  • Demonstrable consultancy experience in influencing the way things are done, utilising change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design, within the last 2 years.
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Demonstrable experience of Data Governance Assurance, within the last 2 years
  • Demonstrable experience of Data Orientated Business Transformation within the last 2 years
  • Demonstrable experience of upskilling teams to create sustainable capability within the last 2 years
  • Demonstrable experience of working at DWP or a similar Government Department
